Brandeis places 18th in 2011 NCSA division III power rankings

Judges named 56th among all NCAA schools in study of academics and athletics

Brandeis University has been ranked 18th among Division III schools and 56th among all NCAA institutions in the 2011 National College Scouting Association (NSCA) collegiate power rankings.

The collegiate power rankings from NCSA athletic recruiting are calculated for each Division I, II and III college and university by averaging student-athlete graduation rates, academic rankings provided by U.S. News & World Report and the strength of athletic departments as determined by the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.

Brandeis ranked 34th in the U.S. News & World Report rankings; 99th in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup; and 88th in athletic graduation rate, as reported by the NCAA, giving Brandeis a Power Ranking of 73.67. Fewer than six percent of NCAA institutions are among the top 100 of the NCSA's overall rankings.
   
Brandeis had six teams compete in NCAA Championships in 2010-11: women's soccer, men's cross country, men's and women's fencing and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. The Judges improved two places from 2009-10 in the Division III power rankings and had their highest Division III ranking since 2007. In the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings, Brandeis moved from 34th up to 31st after significant improvements in the categories of undergraduate academic reputation, six-year graduation rate and alumni giving rate, an improvement that will be reflected in next year's power rankings.
   
"I am extremely pleased with this ranking," said Brandeis Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa '90. "Our student-athletes work hard on the field and in the classroom, and this ranking is an indication of how successful they can be in both endeavors."
